The work of TC 3 and its subcommittees covers the following areas:

Structuring principles and identification

Common methods for structuring and identification, earlier subjects that could be handled discipline by discipline, have become increasingly important because of the integration that the use of IS/IT tools in the design and engineering processes causes.

Graphical symbols for diagrams

Internationally standardized graphical symbols help to make preparing documentation for products and installations both more effective and more efficient. They also help to make understanding such documentation easier, thus increasing the success of the products and installations in both regional and global markets.

Graphical symbols for use on equipment

Internationally-recognized graphical symbols help to make it easier and safer to use products, which has a direct sales benefit in regional and global markets. Subcommittee 3C develops symbols for manufacturers who produce equipment for the consumer and professional areas (for example household domestic appliances, audio/video equipment, data processing equipment and medical equipment).
