The Prague meetings concluded

The plenary meetings of SC3C, SC3D and of TC3 were successfully held last week in Prague.  In spite of the difficulties caused by the flooding of Prague in August, the Czech Standards Institute had succeeded to provide very good facilities for the meetings to be carried out.

The Day report from the TC3 meeting is now available as 3(Prague/Secretariat)19 in the collection of Meeting documents. The collection includes now also some documentation from the TC3 Workshop.

http://tc3.iec.ch is the new URL for the TC3 site

The previous URL for the TC3 site (http://www.iec.ch/tc3) has been changed to http://tc3.iec.ch

The same structure is used for other committees of IEC that have set up own sites.

An automatic “redirect” will let the old address to be used as well, for a change-over time, but to be on the safe side: Change your book marks!

Documents for the Prague meeting

The Draft agenda for the TC3 meeting has been revised and updated and is now available on the TC3 site.

IEC/CO has prepared a meeting folder containing the agenda with associated circulated documents attached. It is available as a zip and an exe file among the Working documents for TC3.

On the TC3 site a Meeting Page for the TC3 meeting has been prepared to contain the “green” meeting documents.

Initially, the list contains just planned documents. The documents will be successively added.

If you intend to bring a “green” document to the meeting, please send it to the Secretary so that it can be added to the list on the page, the sooner the better.

The Prague meeting

We have received the following information from the Czech Standards Institute of interest for those of you who will go to the meetings of TC3 with SCs:

Dear Sirs,

Concerning the upcoming IEC/TC 3 meeting I would like to inform you about the recent situation in Prague. Due to the floods the Czech Standards Institute (and many other institutions, hotels and other stuffs) is not temporarily able to communicate with our partners. Therefore I would like to inform you about the following:

In connection with your accommodation, the Opera hotel is also temporarily closed, but will operate from September 20. For that reason please send your reservations only by e-mail to the following address:

Res@hotel-opera.cz

You should receive the confirmation directly by the hotel.

There are also some changes in Prague ´s public transport. It means that the information we have distributed to you is not valid yet. Because the situation may change we will inform you about the actual state approximately one week before the meeting.

Thank you very much for your patience and understanding. In case of any question please contact me by e-mail.

Yours sincerely,

Jarmila Jichova
Assistant
International Relations Dept.

Corrections to the XML DTD in document 3/607/CD

Document 3/607/CD contains an XML DTD, which is also available in the TC3 site. In the examples in the document it is stated that it can be reached as follows:

<!DOCTYPE Document SYSTEM "http://tc3.iec.ch/xml/IEC82045Ver.2.0.dtd">

Some XML parsers object to the dots in the file name. Therefore a copy of the DTD has also been stored under a name without dots. This copy can be reached as follows:

<!DOCTYPE Document SYSTEM "http://tc3.iec.ch/xml/IEC82045V20.dtd">

Furthermore, although formally correct, the use of xlink:type and xlink:href cause problems when converting the DTD to an XML Schema (because the colon makes the parser interpret xlink as a name space). Therefore an additional attribute, referring to this namespace, should be included in the examples. The first example should then start as follows (and the other ones correspondingly):

<!DOCTYPE Document SYSTEM "http://tc3.iec.ch/xml/IEC82045V20.dtd">
<Document DocumentType="Single" DTDVersion="IEC82045Ver.2.0" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3c.org/1999/xlink">

Regarding the extended database based procedure for IEC 60617

Four documents 3/596/CDV to 3/599/CDV have recently been circulated in accordance with the extended database based procedure for the maintenance of the IEC 60617 described in an annex to the IEC Supplement to the ISO/IEC Directives.

The documents were originally just “cover sheets” with references to the IEC 60617 database for further information. The intent was that those members actively participating in the work of the committee on National level should have “IECTech” access rights to the database. This gives reader access to change requests and to proposed symbols.  This has earlier been described in 3/587/CDV.

It is obviously so that this is not yet the case in many countries, and therefore new revisions of the documents are available that contain also the relevant change request and symbol pages.
